“The Other Side of Me”

“Let’s go on a picnic!!” Komal said.

“That’s a negative. Neither of us is going to have that much of leave.”

“Who said we’ll have to go away from the town for a picnic? We can have a nice joyous picnic just here…”

“Here where?”

“Say… on the roof of your apartment!! Wouldn’t that be great?”

“That would be crazy! No one has gone up there in like a million years!”

“That would make it even more exiting! Then it’s done, tomorrow at 10:30am we are going up!”

So the roof was cleaned, and Aditya’s “rugged old stove” was pumped for one last time. And just when they were all done with spreading mat, and arranging breakfast, it happened almost then.

The daylight went dim… and before Aditya could say “crap!” raindrops started falling from nowhere.

“And I was thinking that the weather was nice!!” No doubt Komal’s plan had been wasted.

Seeing Komal standing in the rain with a childish expression of despise on her face, Aditya couldn’t stop himself from laughing!

“Wow it’s really exiting!” he mimicked Komal’s tone and then said “now wrap up those things which you can and rush downstairs.”

“But what about the picnic?”

“Called off due to heavy rains”

Aditya & komal were sitting beside the window, the sound of pouring rain, the steaming coffee cups in hands, the chill in the air; all were trying to light off the spark of fire which was long awaited…

“Komal…”

“Yes!”

“Where do you see us, a couple of years from now?”

“Wow! That’s great! So finally you’ve started considering ‘us’!!”

“Please Komal! Just close your eyes and picture us 2 years from now! Tell me what do you see?”

As soon as Komal closed her eyes, her face lit up with a calm expression… Aditya simply stared at her innocent yet gorgeous face. It was like he was waiting for a verdict, as if a veil of mystery separated the vision which she was looking at from Aditya’s view.

“We are alone! Away from everyone, bright sunlit day… sitting under a tree and talking to each other, for hours, sharing each and every detail of our lives, one with only other one. Just the two of us!”

Suddenly like a spark! She opened her eyes, and ran in the other room. Aditya was still in the trance of the place that she created just a few moments ago. He saw Komal rushing out with bed sheets and table lamps.

“What are these for?”

“The tent!! We can have our very own tent here only!! NO need to pay any attention to the falling rain!! We have our very own shade!!”

Aditya simply visualized the day when he first saw Komal, stylish, arrogant, mature… He felt like he’s discovering new realms of her life! Realms where she’s still a child! Places where she hopes for a happy future.

“Hello!! Where are you? The tent is ready! Check it out!!”

Aditya felt as if a sudden rush of emotions gripped him, and took him away from all the earthly tensions and worries, he saw Komal’s serene face out there and he knew!! She was the one! He closed his eyes and he could now easily see through the mysterious veil, the world Komal dreams off. Aditya saw them together… and he knew that that he want to spend all of his life, beside her!!
