Close Apart (Chapter-35)

Close Apart Chapter-35 “The 1st Anniversary!” “One year ago! On this very day, I shed my bachelor skin & have been a faithful husband ever since!” Amongst claps and whistle Aditya stepped down from the table which he had temporarily made into a podium stage!! “And today we celebrate our 1 st Anniversary!” A plush flat overlooking the busy Park Street, a small crowd of old friends, Aditya had always dreamt of this life, and finally he is living it! Manish was holding his peg up in the air indicating that his peg was finished. “Can I have a refill on this?” He said. “Only if your wife doesn’t have an objection!” Amrita matched up his voice! Rohini, Manish’s girlfriend turned wife had several of them! (I meant objections of course!) “You’ve already had seven such refills!!” she complained “So What! It’s you who’s going to drive!” Argued Manish. Aside this fight, Aditya came down near where Amrita was sitting, “Thank you for everything!” “You are welcom...

Close Apart (Chapter-34)

Close Apart Chapter-34 “They Meet (Finally)” Tuesday came, along with it came a lot of memories, both good and bad! Aditya was uncertain whether he can actually go through with his wedding or not! Ironically a feeling that he had heard all grooms face on their wedding day! But his position was entirely different. It felt like something was tearing him apart from within. “It’ll be alright! Its normal feeling cold feet in situations like these.” Said Manish. “You don’t get it Manish! Have it ever occurred to you that what kind of situation I am facing? I’ve loved Komal as I’ve never loved anyone else in my life! But still the fate decided otherwise!” Aditya said. “Don’t think of those things now! Just remember that you promised your life to Amrita and now going to marry her today!” “Yes! By The way when will Amrita come?” “She called me up, she said that she’ll reach the registrar’s office directly at 11:00 am.” “I really don’t know what she is doing! When I am st...

Close Apart (Chapter-33)

Close Apart Chapter-33 “The Day Before” Amrita was getting really excited as the day of the wedding was coming closer. She was completely absorbed in planning exactly how the wedding will take place, what dresses will they wear, what music to play until she was told that none of those will be totally possible since the registrar office is generally very crowded and any pompous and time consuming celebration would be literally unmanageable! Monday came, and most of the planning was over, Aditya was relaxing in his armchair in the morning when Amrita came with a cup of coffee. “Aditya! I need you to do me a favor.” “What?” Aditya asked inquisitively. “You’ll have to stop seeing me…” “Wh… what!! What are you talking about! We’re getting married tomorrow!!” “Something has come up to my knowledge!” Aditya froze! He couldn’t believe what he was listening! He was just jotting down names in his mind of persons who might be responsible for this. “I’ve heard from someone whom I trust very much t...

Close Apart (Chapter-32)

Close Apart Chapter-32 “Shopping Day” Amrita took Komal for her wedding day shopping! Komal tried a lot to dodge Amrita but then she was not so resourceful when it came to denying someone. “Look, all my life I’ve been either studying or working, actually I didn’t get real time to dress-up or to party around. So I am what you’ll call a fashion disaster” confessed Amrita. “Don’t worry! I’ll Help You out! You won’t be a fashion disaster on your wedding day.” Komal smiled and replied. After sometime, Amrita was lining up in front of the trial room while holding few dazzling dresses. “I know the decision was a bit hasty, but after so many days without him, I don’t have the patience of staying away anymore! I know, you must be thinking that getting married in a registrar’s office is such a boring thing to do, but for me the companionship is much more important than a fancy wedding! And even Aditya seems to be quite supportive about this.” Amrita finished as she went in one of the trial room...

Close Apart (Chapter-31)

Close Apart Chapter-31 “The Breaking News” Amrita gave him the breaking news exactly a week later. “Maybe you’ll have to take a leave from your office coming Tuesday.” “Why?” “An important thing might come up!” she said with a sparkle in her eyes. “Yeah! Maybe. Important things keep coming to me from past few days.” “But this’ll rock you like anything!” “Sounds like you’ve planned something!” “Please don’t pin me! I find it very hard to keep a secret long with me. But this time I’ve managed because I have imagined a special way to let you know!” “O.K.” They were crossing the busy streets. Sounds of approaching vehicles were cutting out Amrita’s voice. Aditya’s raised his voice to call Amrita. “Let’s have some cakes today instead!” “Why cake? Why not pizza?” “I thought cakes will be a change” “Then we’ll have cakes tomorrow, today I’m in a mood of having pizza!” Amrita ordered a couple of Lamb Delights and then started chatting about the times that they had spent together in the past. A...

Close Apart (Chapter-30)

Close Apart Chapter-30 “Those Memoirs…” Why does luck play such games on innocent humans? And to tip that off, the wounded heart behaves in strange ways. Aditya was finding himself in lot of troubles to cop up with the fact that he has to be with Amrita and not Komal. He was in a fix, and he was dead tired thinking over it. “You’ll have to tell her…” “I couldn’t think how I’d do it.” “But you can’t delay this for too long can’t you?” “But… Why?” “Just look at you!! You’re spending sleepless nights thinking about her and trying to figure out how to just meet her once… And then thinking the day away about how she told you not to do so… you are one pathetic mess!!” “Just shut up! You know nothing about it!” “Is it? You’re just trying to console yourself by telling some crap things, but that isn’t going to work with me.” “I can’t tell Amrita all these… “ “You better do or otherwise she’ll get it herself.” “What??...how’s that possible?” “Well let me guess, do you know who the world’s happi...

Close Apart (Chapter-29)

Close Apart Chapter-29 “Let Me Go…”* “Hello Sir? Would you please pass your phone to Komal? She’s not picking up her phone!” “Aditya, what happened? Komal seemed a bit off mood & now you sound disturbed too!!” “Sir, I promise I’ll explain you everything later on, but for now please tell Komal to pick up her phone!!” After few more tries, Komal received the call. “Hello Komal! Please don’t disconnect the line! I need to talk to you right now!” “It’s of no use Aditya! Both of us are aware of the facts, and right now the biggest truth is that Amrita has come back into your life…” “No it’s not! The biggest fact is that I love you! And I am in no position to lose you!! Why don’t you understand?” “Why don’t you understand Aditya… it’s true that we both are in love, but it’s equally true that in this position Amrita has no one to be called as her own! She has lost almost everything in the riots. She has come to you for the love and support that you promised her! And I can’t take that awa...

Close Apart (Chapter-28)

Close Apart Chapter -28 “Separation” “I thought I had lost everything! It was mayhem. People running all around with burning torches in their hands, beating up almost everybody they can lay hands off. I was in a fix what to do, I had nowhere to go! The miscreants had already started breaking our door when we escaped from there. My dad was already too sick to walk so I was dragging him with me and my mom was right behind us. And I was thinking, where to go! Right then I heard someone calling my name. I turned to saw Rahim chacha was calling me and asking me to hide in his house. I knew that being a muslim majority area it might be the only place to hide in this chaos. When I had almost made it to his house suddenly I trampled onto something and fell down. I don’t remember anything after that. I came to my senses a week ago. They say that I had a major blow in my head as I fell and was rendered unconscious for all this time.” “But They got to put you in some hospita...

Close Apart (Chapter-27)

Close Apart Chapter-27 “Déjà vu…” “Hello Aditya!” “Yes Komal?” “What are you doing this fine morning?” “Planning to have a good sleep.” “Well has anyone told you about the appointment?” “Which one? Well I clearly remember not keeping any one today.” “Yeah you have! You are supposed to meet your girlfriend in half an hour from now. Hurry up!! You don’t want to be late at the meeting… get up.” “O.K. where is the venue again??” “Pizza Hut, 25 mins” “Hey you said half an hour” “And you’ve already wasted 5 minutes!! Hurry!” Aditya was getting ready when the phone rang once again. “Now you’re making me late.” “Hi Aditya its Mr. Arora.” “Oh hello sir! I was just speaking to one of my friends.” “Aditya, I know with whom you were talking, I need to talk to you about something.” “Yes sir…” “The thing I am about to tell concerns Komal, so I need you to be listen very carefully. During her college days, Komal fell for a guy.” “Rohan” “Yes, so you kn...

Close Apart(Chapter-25)

Close Apart Chapter -25 “The Other Side of Me” “Let’s go on a picnic!!” Komal said. “That’s a negative. Neither of us is going to have that much of leave.” “Who said we’ll have to go away from the town for a picnic? We can have a nice joyous picnic just here…” “Here where?” “Say… on the roof of your apartment!! Wouldn’t that be great?” “That would be crazy! No one has gone up there in like a million years!” “That would make it even more exiting! Then it’s done, tomorrow at 10:30am we are going up!” So the roof was cleaned, and Aditya’s “rugged old stove” was pumped for one last time. And just when they were all done with spreading mat, and arranging breakfast, it happened almost then. The daylight went dim… and before Aditya could say “crap!” raindrops started falling from nowhere. “And I was thinking that the weather was nice!!” No doubt Komal’s plan had been wasted. Seeing Komal standing in the rain with a childish expression of despise on her f...

Close Apart (Chapter-24)

Close Apart Chapter-24 “A step ahead” Receiving a bunch of roses in office was not the usual way to start a normal day for Komal! And when the note read “Got you another surprise, meet me after work- Aditya” Komal knew that there’s something really unusual about that day! All day long, she kept on thinking, what may be the surprise! “Is it the movie that I mentioned that day and he reacted like… Ice Age! Aren’t you too grown up for those movies!! Or is it that keychain that I loved in the Archie’s gallery and he winked away!! Oh god! I am too much stressed out! I hate surprises!” “Madam!” Komal was so much sunk in her confusions that she almost forgot that she was still in the office! “Yes?” “Sir asked if you’ve completed proof-reading for your article or not…” “Ah… tell him that I’ll hand it to him within 10 minutes. And again she sank in her trivia hunt!! Basically Komal is a “constant demanding” type girl. Need clarification? Well let’s put it in ...
